Do you want to know a little more about what POMBA is and does? Here is some basic information on our ongoing programs and events. For a more in depth look at all of what POMBA offers, take a look at our brochure designed to give you an overview of a year in the life of POMBA.
Mom's Night Out:
Mom's Night Out takes place once a month. Mom's from POMBA gather at the home of a member for food, drinks and conversation. It's an excellent opportunity to get to know other Mom's in with multiples and just to have a nice night out.
*Parent's Night Out:
Parent's Night Out takes place about four times a year, taking place at either the home of a POMBA member or at a public location. These evenings are a great opportunity to get to know other couple's on a social basis.
*Playgroup:
For children from infant to school-aged, the POMBA playgroup meets once a week. There are lots of toys and equipment for children of all ages - everything from exersaucers and bouncy seats for the babies to dress up clothes and games for the older children. Parents just need to bring peanut free snacks and beverages for their children.
*Preschool Swimming:
The preschool swimming program runs once a week from September to June. For a very reasonable price, families can attend the 1-hour swimming session.
Spring and Fall Clothing Sales:
POMBA holds two clothing sales per year - one in the Spring (April) and one in early fall (September). Members can sell their outgrown items at the sale and can use the members early-shopping privileges to purchase new items. The sale is also open to the public, which gives you even more of an opportunity to sell your items. More Information...
*Nursing Pillow Rental Program:
High-quality twin nursing pillows are available for rental at a very reasonable price. Many moms say that these pillows are essential for nursing multiples.
*Breast Pump Rental Program: POMBA now has hospital grade breast pumps, the Medela Symphony, available for rent at a great price for POMBA members.
Discount Information:
Through our discount program, POMBA members get discounts at many businesses, including children's stores, fitness centres and family activity centres. Members are also provided with a list of companies offering discounts or coupons for multiples, including free diapers and formula.
Buddy Program:
The Buddy Program matches up new mothers with more experienced mothers on a one-on-one basis. The idea is to provide support and encouragement during those first difficult months.
*Seasonal Celebrations:
Our yearly Christmas Party includes a visit from Santa Claus, gifts for the children, entertainment and a catered meal. Our Summer Picnic includes BBQ fare, ice cream and other treats for the kids, outdoor entertainment and lots of fun.
*Mom's Retreat:
Held once a year, the Mom's Retreat is a night away. For many Mom's, the retreat is one of the few nights taken for themselves, and it is a well-deserved reward. Plans are underway for the 2011 retreat.
Newsletter:
The POMBA newsletter, Two Plus, is published once a month (except during the summer) and contains information on events, activities and other topics of interest.
Library:
The POMBA library is a small collection of books on multiple pregnancy and on raising multiples. Books are available for loan to POMBA members.
Expectant Parents Information Night:
POMBA has helped co-ordinate an Expectant Parents Information Night at the IWK. These information nights are open to anyone who is expecting multiples. More information...
Hospital Visitations:
A team of volunteers visits expectant Mom's who find themselves on bedrest at the IWK. You do not need to be a POMBA member to receive a visit - this is a service provided to anyone expecting multiples. More information...
